Dayton Daily News Library WEATHER EMERGENCIES - 1999 Four killed in tornado near Cincinnati Just before sunrise on April 9, 1999 a tornado ripped through the affluent northeast Cincinnati suburbs of Montgomery, Blue Ash and Symmes Twp., killing four people. The dead were later identified as Charles Smith of Clermont County and Donald E. Lewis of Blanchester, both of whom were in their cars. The other two victims died in their home. They were Lee and Jacqueline Cook of 7575 Cornell Road in Montgomery. The only confirmed touchdown was in Blue Ash, but the storm caused damage in Hamilton, Clinton and Warren counties. More than 200 homes were destroyed and 300 more were damaged. |  |
More than 200,000 homes lost electric power during the storm. By the next day 40,000 homes were still dark and utility officials said 1,500 of those were too badly damaged to have power restored. The Blue Ash tornado was the deadliest in Ohio since May 31, 1985 when 10 people died in Trumbull County. |  |
