Dan "Big Daddy" Wilkinson
-- pro football player

File created: 1-17-96

Dayton native and Dubar High School graduate Dan "Big Daddy" Wilkinson was the No. 1 NFL draft pick in 1994 and was signed to play for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Domestic violence charge:

On Sept. 13, 1995, Wilkinson was arrested after an argument with girlfriend Shawnda Lamarr at the couple's Cincinnati home. Police reports say Wilkinson struck Lamarr, who was four months pregnant at the time.
Although Lamarr did not want the case to be prosecuted, under Ohio's domestic violence law the state makes that decision.
Wilkinson entered a plea of no contest and on Jan. 16, 1996 he received a six-month suspended sentence, fined $200 and put on probation for two years.

Conflict over training sessions

Wilkinson walked out of the Bengals minicamp training session 5-5-96 after Coach Dave Shula criticized his conditioning. He returned to camp the following Monday.

On May 7, 1996, Wilkinson failed to show at the team's three-day voluntary camp for veterans.
