Micah Papp
-- "Manny the Hippie" wanted in Beavercreek
Fame backfired on former Beavercreek resident Micah Papp after he turned up as a recurring character on David Letterman's "Late Night" talk show.
Papp was living in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury district when he was recruited to play a character called "Manny the Hippie" on Letterman's show. The Manny character reviewed movies, but did so using bizarre jargon like "schwag" for bad, "dank" for good and "diggity dank" for very good.
Unfortunately for Papp and his new show biz career, a Greene County probation officer saw him on the show and recognized him. Papp had been arrested in 1995 for selling marijuana and had skipped probation when he went to California.
Papp was brought back to Greene County in September 1996 to face the music before Common Pleas Judge Thomas Rose.
On 10-2-96 Rose sentenced Papp to more than a year in jail.
