In 1995 the Dayton Daily News was granted what Ohio prison system Director Reginald
Wilkinson called unprecedented access to Death Row for this series, "A Matter
of Time." Reporters Tom Beyerlein and Mary McCarty, photographer Jan Underwood and artist MB Hopkins were given an extensive tour of the new Death Row at Mansfield Correctional Institution and the opportunity to conduct in-depth interviews with several inmates. All of the inmates from the Miami Valley were asked to participate, but the only one who agreed to be interviewed was Dennis McGuire of Preble County.
