Al Unser

Four-time winner "Big Al" Unser was part of the rookie class of 1965, came in 2nd in 1967 and then won the Indy 500 twice in a row in 1970 and 1971.

A third victory came in 1978 and another in 1987 -- a year when he hadn't expected to be in the race at all and was swapped in when Danny Ongais was injured in practice.

Unser's older brother Bobby won the 500 three times. Another brother, Jerry, was killed at the track in 1959. His son Al Jr. won the race twice.
