1950

During qualifications the fastest drivers were Freddie Agabashian and a rookie named Walt Faulkner who made jaws drop with a 136 mph qualifying lap.

In the race, Faukner came in 7th, but Agabashian dropped out early. The race was called at 345 miles because of rain (this was only the second time that had happened so far, the first being 1926) and the winner was Johnnie Parsons, who'd been second in the 1949 race the year before.

This year Bill Holland was second, which was a familiar spot for him. In the past four 500s he'd come in second, second, first and second.
