TAMPA, Fla. - A former carnival worker and Hamilton resident was convictedWednesday of murder in the killing of a woman who was stabbed and left tobleed to death in a motel bathtub. Glen Rogers could face the death penalty, after a jury found him guilty in the 1995 murder of Tina Marie Cribbs. Thesentencing phase was scheduled to begin today. Jurors will recommend eitherdeath in the electric chair or life in prison. Rogers is suspected of killing three other women in 1995. His mother, Edna Rogers, sobbed quietly as the verdict was read, then leftthe courtroom. The victim's mother, Mary Dicke, told prosecutor Karen Cox: ``You did agood job.'' She declined to talk to reporters. Cox said Rogers, 34, stabbed Ms. Cribbs twice, twisting the knife as hepulled it out from 8- and 9-inch wounds in her chest and buttocks. But the defense maintained during a seven-day trial that Rogers wasn't themurderer. In his summation, defense attorney Nick Sinardi called the state's case a``rush to judgment.'' Prosecutors had no murder weapon, no motive and noeyewitness, he said. Both sides agreed that the defendant and victim met at a bar. Ms. Cribbsleft a beer at the bar and asked friends to tell her mother she would be backshortly. She drove Rogers to a motel in Tampa and the two went inside and hadsex. The defense even conceded that Rogers stole the woman's car, but insistedshe was alive when he left the motel. Rogers was arrested in November after a nationwide manhunt and ended in aspectacular 100-mph chase in Kentucky. He was driving Ms. Cribbs' car. Rogers has been charged with murder in the slayings of three other women, but prosecutors were barred from mentioning those during trial. In California,he is accused of strangling Sandra Gallagher, 34. In Mississippi, he ischarged with stabbing Linda Price, 34.
