The landmark decision issued Monday by the Supreme Court came in a case officially known as DeRolph vs. State of Ohio. It takes its name from Nathan DeRolph, who was a student in the Northern Local School System in Perry County when the case was filed in 1991.

DeRolph, who has since graduated from Sheridan High School and now attends college, could not be reached for comment (he's on spring break and camping in Yellowstone National Park).

But, his father, Dale, said: ``I'm just proud as I can be that this will help the kids of Ohio.''

The elder DeRolph said the decision should serve as a lesson to those willing to take on the system.

He said his son simply wanted the opportunity to go into a classroom and not have to use outdated materials or sit on the floor to take a test because of a lack of desks. `What he wanted was to get the same playing field as other students,' he said.
