Feb. 12 -- Negotiations begin.
Feb. 19 -- United Auto Workers Local 696 put GM officials on a five-day notice that the union may strike if negotiations fail to produce an agreement.
Feb. 22 -- Union officials say negotiations have stalled.
Feb. 24-26 -- Negotiators continue meeting through the weekend, including a 24-hour session that ends Monday morning. Union officials decide to let the strike deadline pass.
March 1 -- The union sets a new strike deadline, 10 a.m. March 5.
March 4-5 -- Negotiators meet through the night.
March 5 -- 3,000 workers go out on strike as the second deadline arrives without an agreement.
March 8 -- 300 workers return to work to make parts for non-GM vehicles. Six GMvehicle assembly plants shut down because of strike.
March 9 -- More assembly plants affected by the strike - including the one in Moraine.
March 10 -- GM cuts production at a growing number of parts plants that supply the assembly plants.
March 11 -- About 137 of 2,700 hourly workers are sent home at the Delphi Chassis plant in Kettering.
March 12 -- At least 21 of 29 assembly plants and nine parts plants shut down; 24 parts plants are partially affected
March 13 -- More local plants affected. About 115 workers idled at the Delphi Chassis plants on Home Avenue in Dayton and at Delphi Interior and Lighting Systems in Vandalia.
March 14 -- GM says 24 of 29 North American assembly plants affected by the strike, idling 111,500 workers.
March 15 -- Serious negotiations begin for the first time in more than a week. Talks start shortly before noon and go through 10 p.m.
March 16 -- Talks continue for 12 more hours Saturday.
March 17 -- Negotiators meet at 9 -- 30 a.m. and talk through the night. Negotiators impose a news blackout on talks.
March 18 -- Marathon talks continue. All but three of GMs 29 assembly plants inNorth America are closed. Workers affected climbs to 142,500. GM tells some suppliers to halt shipments.
March 19 -- What would become the last marathon bargaining session begins aboutnoon. Number of affected GM workers climbs to at least 166,500 workers.
March 20 -- Labor Secretary Robert Reich offers federal mediators.
March 21 -- GM and UAW reach tentative agreement at 12:45 p.m.
March 21 -- Union members ratify the agreement.
